Accessible Interview Process

An accessible interview process requires proactive planning, clear communication, and flexibility.

Description

An accessible interviewing process involves proactive preparation, clear communication, and flexible execution, focusing on the candidate's skills by providing information in advance (questions, schedule, location), ensuring physical/virtual environments are barrier-free, minimizing distractions (fewer interviewers, quiet space), offering accommodations (captions, written questions, extra time), and asking open-ended questions about abilities, not just disabilities, to create an equitable experience for all candidates.

Key elements include:

  • Sharing details in advance (questions, schedule, location).
  • Ensuring physical or virtual spaces are barrier-free.
  • Reducing distractions (quiet space, fewer interviewers).
  • Providing accommodations (captions, written questions, extra time).
  • Asking open-ended questions focused on abilities, not disabilities.
